Now the kids can have fun with Tough Mudder announcing a kids course at every event throughout the UK. 2015 sees the launch (currently just UK, US & Ireland) of Mini Mudder, or to give it its official title: Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder to form a partnership with Britvic and their range of kids drinks.
This brings the Mudder empire up to 4 events: Tough Mudder, a ten to twelve mile military-style obstacle course challenge. Mudderella, a five to seven mile obstacle course experience designed for women, by women. Urban Mudder, five mile city-based obstacle course, replacing mud and shocks with music, innovative obstacles and a day long festival. (Just announced, coming to the UK 2016, more details soon). Mini Mudder, one mile, kid friendly obstacle course for children aged seven to twelve and 1.1m (3.5 foot) tall and over.

The assault course promises to be exciting with scaled down versions of the ones Mum & Dad are tackling such as:
Hangin’ On, Hangin’ Out - Here your Mini Mudder will need to let the monkey in them come alive as they try out varying levels of monkey bar technique.
A-Frame Adventure – Climbing up and over an a-frame using ropes on one lap and hand holds on the next. There are also some Tunnels of Terror and a Crazy Climb (over hay bales).

However whilst some of the obstacles sound like standard fair, they have clearly taken some inspiration from the Crystal Maze and other children’s daytime TV classics and with a course of just a mile it won’t be long until the jump head first into:
Don’t Get Slimed - Try and avoid getting splashed with an unknown radioactive liquid while testing agility and speed (Slime contains non-Newtonian fluid made from natural and non-harmful materials).
Gooey Shoes - Get your shot to walk across a slimy, slippery surface without slipping.
Secret Agent Squeeze - Feel like your very own 007 as you slip through the cracks of this ‘laser’ maze with different traps on each lap

Now whilst some of this just sounds like there is going to be some extra washing to be done when we get home, and let’s face it the post mud-run wash-down is our least favourite bit of the day, it does sound like our little ones are going to come home sporting a smile as big as ours! Having chilled out in the family only recreation area and enjoyed some Fruit Shoot samples they will also have a matching headband to hang next to Mum & Dads.

The price is going to be £20 (with £1 going to charity), however if you sign up to a Tough Mudder Main Event prior to February 16th (midnight local) on the 24th you will received a code for one free Mini Mudder entry. See the Tough Mudder Limited Time Offer.
I for one will be keeping a close eye on this and other kids races, anything that can help the whole family have a great day out is surely beneficial to the whole community, Tough Mudder was my wife’s favourite event of 2014 as the spectator map allowed her to keep an easy track of me, maybe this will keep us coming back in 2022 when my mini Muddy Racer is old enough.
