The Sheffield racer took to his first ‘4 lapper’ Nuts Challenge attempt this weekend finishing first and smashing the course record. Completing 28km in 3 hours 42 minutes ahead of team Inov-8’s Ross MacDonald and James Appleton, the Sheffield man was 5 minutes ahead of the course record, held by World OCR Champion Jon Albon.
A notoriously tough course, the Nuts Challenge is known for its intense obstacles along the 7km loop, which this year was longer and with added obstacles.
An elated Conor who finished 23 minutes ahead of second place commented:
I surprised myself today, but I always seem to do well with the cold and continuous obstacles! I just wore a neoprene base layer which kept me warm throughout the constant cold water
Little over a month ago Conor finished second place at Tough Guy, behind Jon, after coming from 10th place to finish just two minutes behind Jon.
The 21 year old, who finished 8th in the World Championships last year, will next meet Jon Albon at Rat Race’s Dirty Weekend, which will be a clash both of them will sure be looking forward to. Despite the increased training Conor did feel some cramp after the third lap, which is unusual according to the Team Muddy Race front man.
Third lap in I could feel a little bit of cramp and tightness, but the Nuts Challenge will do that to most people! Really glad to have finally had a go at Wayne’s (Race Director of Nuts) course, and was up there with the toughest i’ve completed
Conor’s brother took to his first OCR this weekend too. A professional boxer he placed second in the 2 lap course and a definite one to watch out for. Whilst Jon Albon wasn’t present, his sister Beth took first place in the female’s 4 lap race, followed by Lucy Martlew in the second place.
