It’s one thing doing Tough Mudder but it’s another thing doing it both days and travelling the UK to never miss out, raising money for charity as you go along.
Originally from Seattle, USA, Aaron German served in the U.S. Army for 8 years taking in several assignments of Iraq during his time as a soldier. A year later, after leaving military service, Aaron settled in London with his English wife, Catia to live a civilian life.
After taking part in a Tough Mudder event in 2013, the mud obstacle race bug struck and he was hooked. Inspired by reading an article about a man who had completed both days of all the UK Tough Mudders (6 events) that year for charity, he decided to follow suit and support the well know UK force’s charity, Help for Heroes.
As a former serving soldier it was the most appropriate cause to support and add to that they being the official partner charity of Tough Mudder, Aaron knew he would receive the correct support in entering the events, and Help for Heroes would aid him in his publicity.
I decided I would run Tough Mudder on both days at every event in the UK, then they added two more events, taking it to 16 days of Tough Mudder!
For their 2014 UK calendar, Tough Mudder had increased the event numbers to 8, meaning Aaron had to run the 20km course 16 times including travelling north to Scotland and across the Irish Sea to Dublin. The profile of the challenge quickly grew and Aaron’s team grew to over 20 for some events.
Together with his wing man Lea Pilgrim (who has also completed 16 laps), Aaron has raised £1,500 for Help For Heroes. The money will help injured service men and women in their rehabilitation after their time serving in the military.
Aaron highlights the North West event as his favourite. His team of nearly 20 dressed up as ‘grannies’ with all the fine details of hairnets and shopping trolleys. They even had a tea party at the top of the Everest obstacle.

As for 2015, Aaron has not decided on a new challenge. The mud obstacle racing will continue and he will diverse the events he does, but he sums up his 2014 experience in this quote:
I’ve been to a lot of places and seen a lot of things, but there’s nothing like a 12-mile run through mud and water and live electrical wires with friends by your side.
