You may be asking yourself what shoes should I wear for Tough Mudder? And this a frequent question, but it’s quite a simple one. Trainers with some form of grip should be worn.
Get some tread
Generally speaking you should look for Trail shoes. It’s perfectly fine to wear old running trainers on the course but Tough Mudder gets very muddy so you will slip about. Particularly up hills which can cause bumps and falls increasing your chance of injury.
If you want to be more like a mountain goat rather than ballerina on ice then go for these shoes.
For Tough Mudder virgins those on a budget
If you are intending to do Tough Mudder once or it is your first event, the More Mile Shoes are a great choice at around £30 and are a perfect cheap trail shoe for Tough Mudder. The other choice is the Adidas Kanada Trail Shoe.
Both of these are suitable because they offer strong grip on the sole with thick teeth that stick in the mud.
For Tough Mudder experts or those wanting to spend more
Generally speaking Inov-8 shoes are currently the best on the market. For the thickest mud choose the Mudclaw 265 or 300. For more all year rounders go for the X-Talon 212, which is the most popular shoe.
Other variations in the price range are the Reebok All Terrain Series. Not as strong on grip as the Inov-8 but a comfortable durable shoe and worth considering.
Salomon also offer a durable heavier version than the Inov-8’s - the Fell Raiser. These are excellent shoes and great for those who want more support and durability.
What do go for:
- Very muddy terrain - Mudclaw or Salomon Fell Raiser
- Lightweight most popular - X-Talon 212
