The most popular mud cam GoPro, have released new versions of the waterproof camera of choice. The three new models vary in price and specifications with a new RRP £99 model. The new £99 model shoots a 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second and 5MP stills!

This new cheap obstacle race camera doesn’t have Wi-Fi or bluetooth features like the more expensive models but is perfect for beginners looking to have a go. It’s also waterproof up to 40m and weighs just 111g.

Drawbacks on all GoPro camera’s are the battery life and you’ll generally get about 90 minutes out of them when out on the mud, but this is easily fixed by purchasing a spare battery and change mid race, albeit a little fiddly. However, this cheaper version doesn’t allow you to change the battery, so if you’re looking to record more then a couple of hours you may be a little upset.

What’s new?

Other versions of the GoPro classic include the Hero 4 Silver which costs £279 but has a a touchscreen display and playback function. This is a pretty big feature as before we couldn’t view what we were filming without buying an add on.

The Hero4 black costs £369 and has a full host of features including a double powered processor, 12MP camera and lots of other features that if you’re interested in buying you won’t need us to tell you! But it does have an automatic light so you can film in the dark.

Another useful feature is that it’s now even easier to use the camera stills feature and holding the record button for 3 seconds records time lapse photos. Something that before required going through the menu.

If you’re looking to record those moments then now there’s no excuse to not buy one! Don’t forget you will need a SD card to record the filming (up to 32GB) and a headstrap or pole (see below).
