That TG course was cold - I was only watching but it was brutal out there! 33% DNF has to be the highest of all OCRs!

What an event!! It’s definitely up there with Nuts 28k as being the hardest both mentally and physically! 3rd year in a row for me and I think that one was probably the coldest!!

But at the same time, it’s strangely the most enjoyable too as you know there’ll be a huge sense of achievement once you cross that finish line!

I think I must be a bit mad (aren’t we all?!) but I enjoyed nearly all of it! The only bit that really hurt was the underwater tunnels and the cramp that kicked in a few minutes after that!

I like the challenge/lottery of picking the right kit to beat the cold too! I nearly wore a neoprene vest this year but having seen the state of James Appleton at the end I’m a firm believer that less is more! I think the only way to keep the cold at bay for Tough Guy is to keep moving and keep the heart rate up!

Ha what did you wear? Those in wetsuits were really hot, but they didnt get hypothermia so i guess it’s a trade off!

I stuck with what I trusted from last year…short sleeve Nike baselayer, fast wicking Karrimor tshirt over the top and then the X-Racewear shorts. The neoprene gloves were key I reckon as they kept my hands just about warm enough to function properly! My best bit of kit though was the merino wool wrag…first time I’d worn it and so much better than a beanie! When it gets too warm during the run you can pull it down around your neck or even take it off and wrap it around your wrist but then if the wind suddenly picks up or you feel your temperature dropping it works perfectly as a hat…and even after the water tunnels it felt dry enough to wear again within a few minutes!

Good advice! Have you got any good pictures of you in the X-racewear shorts? We are finishing up a review now (preferably in a muddyrace top!

I’ve got a couple of pics from Ram Run but not Tough Guy…I’ve not had chance to trawl through all those pics yet! The MuddyRace top hasn’t made its debut yet but will be coming out for Avalanche Run in a couple of weeks
