If you’re getting serious you might want to invest in a pair of Obstacle Race gloves. The key features in a pair of gloves are:
Durable - they need to last as they’re probably going to get battered about a bit.
Grip - the most important feature here. You’ll be cling on for your life so you need something that will give you the grip.
Waterproof or quick drying - this is debatable and depends on the time of year. If you’re racing between November and March you’ll want some that will keep you warm. Quick drying is essential as often mud or water can make them heavy and make the hands colder.
Do you need gloves? It’s not essential but it can help on some of the brutal courses and can make you a little quicker when climbing over obstacles.

The Mechanix range is made for Military originally and not built specifically for OCR but they have many great features that make them perfect. Such features include the durability from the tough stitching and great grip which means you wont slip on the monkey bars. They also have protection on the knuckles.

XXR Neoprene Padded Gloves
A bit of a find in our trials this little glove is an absolute gem. It’s lightweight with neoprene padding on the palms and netting on the top. The neoprene padding means it dries very quickly and provides padding. The netting on top of the hands keeps it light and helps it dry quicker as there’s less material. The XXR also allows a lot of finger movement. We love - Padding, Lightweight, Price, Quick drying, Comfortable
Downside - Struggle on some wet monkey bars, not great for warmth or winter
The best summer glove for value - £5

Mechanix Wear M-Pact Fingerless
This is the fingerless option of the M-Pact gloves and perfect for the warmer days.
We love - Grip, short fingered, knuckle protector, good for warmer weather
Downside - On the expensive side and a little bulky
-
