some of the obstacles are truly massive, the hill slaloms are horrific and overall it is a unique event with a heck of a powerful impact. maybe not quite as polished or slick as some, but i think they want that. the buzz is electrifying and it is unlike most other events.

you will get cold. not just the water but being up high on top of massive obstacles. hell of a buzz being on the start line. you have to do at least one.

  2. This year was my first year doing Tough Guy and i’m so glad i booked it. Such an awesome event and the build up is immense. On the lead up to the day literally everyone is taking about it which makes the event sound amazing before we actually get there. I started from the back been my first time but that didn’t matter, i was there for the experience and fun. The mud, water and obstacles were crazy. I’ve never experienced an OCR like that before. The worst part is the killing fields just due to the volume of obstacles, water and mud. Overall i was buzzing once i finished and its defiantly one to add to 2017’s events. Matt

When I completed the 2015 tough guy event I was colder than I thought it possible but I finished. A great weight of brass around my neck to assure me. My timing I didn’t even care about. I finished. The muddied shivering faces and the accompanying clanking brass of my newly found comrades prompted me to sign up for 2016 straight away despite the aches, pains, cramps, scrapes and bruises.
This year was warmer. I was more prepared but it was as relentless. I loved it more. I signed up again straight away for 2017. A new collection of bruises.
Who knows what 2017 will bring? We will love it. We will grimace again. And undoubtedly return for 2018.
The original and certainly the best.

  4. Tough guy is a deceptively tricky course…no real solid ground as you run either mud humps or rutted earth and a mixture of trail over the 15k course. Mix in 4500 competitive individuals all full of fear passion and ego, with more obstacles than you can shake a stick at.
    Then it’s going to test anyone’s resolve…

The beauty of these events is the people’s attitudes towards lifestyle and having fun whatever the circumstances. You cannot fail to meet people in the OCR community who will positively inspire and influence you.

This event was living up to the hype, felt better than this after 42 miles into doing the London to Brighton Ultra.
All the big rigs and water and fire jump done , can’t remember the order they came in as was in status (full grind ) failure was not an option.
A friendly muddyracer came along side and we tagged a couple of k eventually the finish line in sight … The truth said being electrocuted a final time no longer held any fear I knew I was going to make it. Crawl up the final hurdle , not one electric hit, well at least the neoprene did one thing right. Round the bend over the hay bail to a roar of approval. .Tough guy status earned..

I urge anyone who wants a fun community feel to health and wellbeing to actively engage with OCR. From 5ks to ultramarathons Spartans to Toughguy, Toughest Born survivors and Airfield Anarchy. It’ll literally change your life .

Tough Guy! What a race. The feeling and buzz you get stood waiting for the canon on top of the hill down to the head freeze pain of lollipop heads. You have to experience this race once in your life…. Then you will be hooked and just have to go back again for more.

Winter Tough Guy… What can I say? The Original Obstacle Race created by an eccentric looking character called ‘Mr Mouse’. Having heard about this legendary event over the whole of 2015 I caved in about Oct and bought myself a ticket wondering if the £100 was going to be worth it.

Electric pre-race atmosphere, good changing area (beats open muddy field), absolutely amazing feeling and displays of camaraderie, grit and determination.
Generous smattering of man-made and natural obstacles- all achievable but energy sapping yet utterly exhilarating all at the same time. The hill slaloms, the bitch ditches and the famous ‘Killing Fields’ featuring The Tiger, Underwater Tunnels, Torture Chamber, Brandenburger Gate, Skywalk & Paradise Climb, Dragon Pools and many more.
Great amount of marshals, volunteers and spectators who were utterly brilliant throughout. Special shout out to The Ghost Squad in particular Tony Bigfoot Campbell who made my day banging his drum and hollering my name out to me across the Tigers! I stood at the top of the second Tiger arms in the air soaking it all in. Then there was the bling…now that’s what you call a MEDAL!! Great touch were the hot drinks and choccie biccies at the end.

So, did Winter Tough Guy live up to all the hype? Erm… I bought my ticket for 2017 the day after…

    Still Grinning

  7. I was colder than I had been in my entire life but I was officially a Tough Guy finisher! With my medal hung around my neck a sense of great pride came over me, one much greater than that I’ve ever experienced after finishing any other event. With this pride came the answer to why I had just put my body through almost everything it could possible take for the past 1 hour, 47 minutes and 54 seconds.

This event isn’t about how long it takes you to get round the 15km course or where you finish though. It is exactly what it’s described as on the entry form: ‘The world’s safest, most dangerous one day survival ordeal’.

The ultimate OCR test in the UK, you must prepare for this. You’ll get cold and tired as there’s cold water, large climbing frames and 15km to negotiate. Pain aside, if you book this, once you finish you’ll have achieved something. But don’t get complacent, this course has a 30-40% non completion rate. The start is a charge down a hill and its like a medieval battle scene. The middle has a 10 lane slalom hill section and the finish is 5km of frames, ponds, tunnels and mud pits. All this aside, its great fun and the 1st aid and marshal safety plans are excellent to those that need assistance.
