We’ve collated all the numbers and below is the list of the most popular events based on the number of entrants. Are they the best? Everybody has their own opinion of what constitutes ‘best’ so this list is not based on our opinion! See top 10 below (in no particular order)

1. Tough Mudder

Global giant Tough Mudder is not a race but will provide you with 2 hours plus of gigantic obstacles and lots of mud. With events up and down the UK. See more info here


2. Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest

Running for over four years this is probably the biggest race series in the UK run by Rat Race. With events in London, Nottingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Perfect for both beginners and the more competitive all events are 10km long and set in an urban location. All events are timed, include a medal and a t-shirt. >> View all dates here


3. Spartan Race

Another global brand and Spartan events start in August each year, with several locations. They offer three distances – 5km, 12km and 20km. The 5km is called the Sprint and perfect for beginners. The 12km is called the Super and the 20km is called the Beast which are for the more experienced obstacle racers. All events are timed, include a medal and a t-shirt. >> View all dates here


4. Total Warrior

Set in the Lake District Total Warrior has a loyal following and offers 10km or 10 miles options over two days in August. Expect big obstacles and lots of hills across beautiful scenery. 5. Major Series

Organised by British Military Fitness the Major Series offers 4 locations – North, South, Midlands and Scotland. Organised more for the beginners they offer 5km or 10km. View all dates here

6. X Runner

Set in the Midlands (Derby and Nottingham) X Runner offers 5km and 10km options with four events throughout the year – Wild Run, Water Wipeout, Wild Warrior and Mad Monk. View all dates here


7. Wolf Run

Originally from Leamington Spa, Wolf Run offers 2-3 obstacle events a year. With one also in Lutterworth. Incredibly well organised, great obstacles, lots of mud and friendly atmosphere. The Wolf Run isn’t a timed event so perfect for beginners and groups of friends wanting to get around. View all dates here


8. Rock Solid Race

With two locations in Exeter and Milton Keynes Rock Solid offer 5km and 10km obstacle races. Events include an after party, a medal, t-shirt and lots of fun. View all dates here


9. Tough Guy

The Original Obstacle Race not for the faint hearted. Start in January in the freezing conditions and make your way through the 8 miles obstacle course so tough it makes grown men cry. View all dates here.


10. Nuts Challenge

The name explains all with Nuts Challenge, depending on how ‘Nuts’ you think you are, choose from one to four laps of a 7km course, with literally hundreds of obstacles to get over and under along the way. View all dates here
